Vitiligo is chronic not contagious disease

We observe so many patients who have been suffering from vitiligo more than 10 years. There can be multiple reasons of why they are not cured but it reflects the overall nature of this disease. It can prolong even for years and sometimes for while life. This chronic behavior is a typical attribute of vitiligo. Normally due to carelessness and lack of knowledge, people become sick from their treatments and start compromising with their appearance. They spend years with this condition with an illusion that vitiligo is a non curable and getting result oriented vitiligo treatment is a nightmare.
Coming back to the point regarding its nature, vitiligo is for sure a chronic skin disorder but it does not spread over from person to person. Vitiligo is not contagious disease at all. However we often observed that genetic inheritance is one of big reasons for its transformation to the coming generations. But it is something different from being infectious. Vitiligo patients can live a routine life just like other people without any fear. Also other healthier society members should not avoid vitiligo persons just because of white patches. Give them respect and honor as unlikely behavior can make them more sensitive.
Some major reasons why vitiligo appears can be categorized as:
  • It is a skin disorder where pigmentation process of cells fails to perform its function. Physical weakness, deficiency of vitamins, poor immunity and many other reasons can be associated with this condition
  • Over exposure under direct sunlight is another huge ground
  • Skin dryness and environmental effects may also lead towards vitiligo
On the basis of all the research that has been conducted so far and theories, it is an established consensus that vitiligo is not contagious.
